Reading Notes: Arabian Nights, Part B

While the story of Aladdin was really interesting, it is much too long to try to retell the whole thing, so my notes today are going to focus on Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp Part 2.

- So Aladdin comes home with this lamp and he and mom are planning on selling it. When they clean the lamp off, a genie appears. Aladdin commands the genie to get him something to eat, which the genie does, but Aladdin's mom is not happy about this whole genie situation. She thinks it associated with the devils, but Aladdin is pretty sure that everything is chill.

-Aladdin uses the genie's powers to make enough money to live off of for many years. One day the Sultan announce that everyone should close their windows and not look outside while the princess goes to take a bath.

- Doesn't everyone know that when someone tells you not to look, all you want to do is look?

- Of course Aladdin decides that he must see the princes and sneaks a peak at her (which is really creepy, I do not approve of this) and immediately falls in love.

-He goes home and tells his mom that he has to propose to the princess. His mom laughs at him he somehow makes his mother go and tell the Sultan about his love for the princess.

-There is also a vizir that wants the princess to marry his son, so the king tries to hold out to get better marriage offerings, but ultimately promises the princess to the vizir's son.

- So Aladdin demands that the genie bring the princess and her future husband to him (aka kidnap). He leaves the man outside and tells the princess that he should be the one to marry her and that he won't hurt her.

-The princess is terrified, and once the night is over the genie returns her and her groom to the palace.

My plan is to tell the story from the princess's point of view in order to show just how ridiculous these potential suitors are to her.
